Spring Term 2 - Take One

Our focus for Spring Term 2 has a literary theme and is focussed on exploring the graphic novel 'Marcy and the Riddle of the Sphinx' by Joe Todd-Stanton.

In English lessons, our work will focus on the text.  We will explore the story and box up the main ideas to help us understand the structure of the text.  In grammar sessions we will recap using inverted commas for speech, explore how to use similes to add detail to a seething and characters then we will learn how to use subordinate conjunctions, applying these to our own writing.  We will invent our own characters and write our own adventure set in Egypt before editing and improving our writing.  We will then use the text to explore writing instructions about saving Marcy's father from the Sphinx.  In spelling sessions, we will focus on using phonics and spelling patterns to spell familiar consonant sounds before exploring words from the Year 3/4 word lists.  We will also focus on ensuring that our handwriting is joined and legible.

In Maths, we will explore perimeter and fractions.  We will continue to learn our 3x, 4x and 8x tables this term, becoming more fluent in rapidly recalling facts from these multiplication tables.

Use the videos below to help practice your 3x, 4x and 8x tables:
