Curriculum
Our planned curriculum is separated into six themes. These are Take One Book, Take One World, Take One Picture, Take One Scientist, Take One Artefact and Take One Culture. We have designed a skills based curriculum with opportunities for staff to make relevant cross-curricular links and ensure that children have every opportunity to develop literacy and numeracy skills across the curriculum. Our long term plan identifies the skills progression to ensure consistency and coverage across the year groups.
We have incorporated a number of projects into our curriculum, including One World, Enterprise and Learn 4 Life. We offer children opportunities to have a ‘voice’ in the planning of activities, to ask questions and to identify aspects they want to discover or investigate.
We follow the Emmanuel Scheme for RE and Jigsaw for PSHE. We endeavour to provide a range of enrichment opportunities within each theme, for example through:
- Workshops eg Gamelan Music, African Mask making and Samba drumming
- Inviting visitors into school (eg authors, theatre companies, Jonathan’s Jungle etc)
- Educational visits (eg Hampton Court, Longleat)
We have invested significantly in enhancing the IT resources, including laptops, iPads, improving the infrastructure and through investing in staff training to maximise opportunities to use IT resources. All classrooms have Interactive Smart TVs.
